Growing up my dad would always shake his head and mumble "that rag" whenever someone mentioned reading something in the Boston Herald. Now I see his point.

On Feb. 2, 2008, the Boston Herald reported that a member of the New England Patriots? video staff taped the St. Louis Rams? walkthrough on the day before Super Bowl XXXVI. While the Boston Herald based its Feb. 2, 2008, report on sources that it believed to be credible, we now know that this report was false, and that no tape of the walkthrough ever existed.

Prior to the publication of its Feb. 2, 2008, article, the Boston Herald neither possessed nor viewed a tape of the Rams? walkthrough before Super Bowl XXXVI, nor did we speak to anyone who had. We should not have published the allegation in the absence of firmer verification.

The Boston Herald regrets the damage done to the team by publication of the allegation, and sincerely apologizes to its readers and to the New England Patriots? owners, players, employees and fans for our error.

The apology is worthless. The damage has already been done.......

^ Agreed. The entire world thinks we've cheated now. Our own paper calling out our own team. Shameful!

I'm enjoying the quotes from the coaches and players around the league. Mike Martz himself stated that the Pats beat them fair and square. Tomlinson also said that this is a dead issue and people need to move on with their lives. Jimmy Johnson thinks its all nonsense. Coaches and players all know that this wasnt as big of a deal as ESPN made it and it really seems as if the NFL is on our side during this whole bit.

Its been 8 months, and theres nothing new to report on this. Hopefully it'll now die.

Senator Arlen Specter is pushing for a congressional investigation into it now, so I kind of doubt its going to die as long as that is happening. The media loves controversy.

Pats did cheat: what the rest of "the Nation" (& I don't mean "THE Nation) isn't asking is "did eveybody do it?"... we know we're not alone though. :)

An "investigation" would bring out a whole can of worms on the NFL, something Goodell definitely doesn't want. Specter is a joke, he doesn't know what he's talking about and doesn't realize he's embarrassing himself. One thing people don't realize about Specter is that he's a congressional minority. In order for him to "launch" an investigation he has to get permission from Senator Lehay from Vermont, amongst other people. Ted Kennedy, as well as a few other congress members, have already been quoted as saying this was a complete waste of time. Specter is all alone in this, and its not going to go anywhere. He's just jealous because his Eagles lost anways. :)
